Os rebeldes apoiados pelo Ruanda afirmaram ter capturado a cidade estratégica de Goma, no leste da Rep. Dem. do Congo, o centro de uma região que contém biliões de dólares em riqueza mineral que permanece em grande parte inexplorada, noticiou a Associated Press. A ofensiva fez com que milhares de pessoas fugissem das suas casas, além de 1 milhão de deslocados que já estão em Goma, e sobrecarregou os hospitais até ao limite, com centenas de feridos a chegarem todos os dias enquanto civis são apanhados no fogo cruzado.
